After three decades serving their local community, Cramlington residents Ian and Helen Platt are preparing to retire from The Cramlington Cobbler at Manor Walks.
Ian and Helen opened The Cramlington Cobbler in October 1996, after Ian had already spent 15 years working in the trade. With Cramlington continuing to grow, the couple decided to take the leap and go into business for themselves.
For the past 30 years, The Cramlington Cobbler has provided a valued service to Manor Walks customers and the wider Cramlington community, with Ian and Helen serving generations of customers throughout that time.
Reflecting on the milestone, Ian Platt, owner of The Cramlington Cobbler, said:
“I have loved the interactions with so many people over the years and our customers have been amazing. I want to thank them for their loyalty, if it hadn’t been for them, the business wouldn’t have been the success it has.
“After working every Saturday for 30 years, I’m looking forward to finally experiencing the ‘Friday feeling’ and spending more time with Helen, our family and our gorgeous grandsons. I’ll certainly miss the business and all the people who have been such a big part of it.”

While Ian and Helen are saying goodbye to The Cramlington Cobbler, customers can be reassured that shoe repair, key cutting and other services will continue to be available at Manor Walks, with further details to be announced soon.
